Brad Smith will be competing for the hearts of 25 Canadian ladies on Citytv this fall
Get ready to meet your inaugural Bachelor Canada bachelor: CFL wide receiver Brad Smith.
Citytv announced the former Toronto Argo’s appointment Tuesday morning, ending weeks of speculation.
“Brad is the full package – a quintessentially Canadian, down-to-earth man,” Claire Freeland, director of original programming at Rogers Media and executive producer of The Bachelor Canada said in a statement. “He is completely committed to this experience and in it for the right reasons. It’s Canada’s turn to find love with The Bachelor Canada and we could not have hoped for a more well-rounded and genuine person to kick off the first season.”
“I’m extremely honoured to be chosen as Canada’s first bachelor,” Smith said in a statement. “I take this experience very seriously, and I truly believe in the process. I can’t wait to meet all the wonderful Canadian women who have put their lives on hold to experience all of this with me. I hope I can live up to their expectations, as I know they’ll absolutely exceed mine.”
So who is Canada’s newest most eligible bachelor?
The 28-year-old is the son of former CFL commissioner and current Canadian senator Larry Smith. The hockey-loving football player grew up in Hudson, QC, and graduated from Queens University before enjoying a successful career as a wide receiver for several CFL teams, including the Montreal Alouettes and the Toronto Argonauts.
Currently a free agent (in more ways than one), Smith now lives in Toronto.
As for his ideal lady, Smith says he is attracted to independent, intelligent women who are “just as confident in a ponytail, sweatpants and sweatshirt as they are all dressed up for a night out on the town.”
“A sense of humour is a turn-on,” he told Citytv. “Someone who is high maintenance turns me off!”
With the long casting complete (a process our very own Miranda Furtado bravely took part in), production on the nine-episode reality series is currently underway.
The Bachelor Canada will premiere on Citytv this fall. Additional details, including the identity of host and the 25 bachelorettes, will be announced at a later date.
